3 Things to Remember when considering a break:
It is okay to put yourself first. You can’t pour from an empty cup, after all.
“Influencing” is real work. There is so much planning that goes into curating a nice feed. It takes hundreds of photos to find that right one, and then you still doubt if you chose correctly. It’s countless editing apps and filters to make your life more insta-worthy. It’s writing and rewriting that caption. It’s brand negotiations, it’s rejection emails, it’s constantly comparing yourself and competing with thousands of feeds that are very similar to yours. It’s hours of engaging with your followers and reaching out to new accounts to keep up your numbers. It’s a daily struggle to please a finicky following– followers, who will drop you in a second if your square didn’t meet their expectation THAT DAY. It gets EXHAUSTING.
There is no shame in taking a break
Sure, you’ll lose followers–I lost over 1k when I took a year off while I moved and readjusted to life in a new place with a new baby. People may wonder where you went–(most won’t). “Competitors” may notice you “quit.” But, that is okay. There is NO SHAME in putting yourself first. Do something you love. Focus on your real life. Take up a new hobby. You can come back to it later. When you feel less stressed. You can take a week off or you can take a year off, its up to you. It IS your life.
Disconnecting is good for the soul
It’s like a breath of fresh air to have so much time for other things. You don’t have to check your notifications constantly. You don’t have to worry about the next idea. You won’t have a full on panic attack if you misplace your phone…
You free up so many hours to do other things. This is the time to reorganize those closets! (well, it is for me). Do what makes you happy. What have you been putting off?
